• The Earth rotates counterclockwise on its axis once every 24 hours and takes about one year (365 days) to revolve around the Sun. From our perspective on Earth, the Sun rises in the East and sets in the West.

 

• When a portion of the Earth faces the Sun, it is daytime.  When the same area rotates away from the Sun, it is nighttime.
