How we teach students to become critical thinkers through the pedagogical practice of questioning.

Introduction:  The purpose of teaching students to become critical thinkers is to facilitate the maturity of the students intellectual abilities, and to guide students to expand increased awareness and control of their own cognitive development.  In doing this, we must find strategies to engage students in intellectual competence by carefully planning questions that will promote classroom discussion or debate, influence behaviors, attitudes, and appreciations. Given the important role of questions in teaching and learning, a method for collecting evidence about our own questioning strategies and a framework within which to analyze them to educate students in biology is using Bloom's Taxonomy of Development.
