Walk On Opportunities- UMKC golf does allow walk on opportunities. Before one can try out they have to fill out a walk on registration form which can be obtained from JW Vandenborn in the Athletic office in Swinney Recreation Center. If your past credentials are at par with the rest of the squad you will then be able to physically try out for the team under the eye of Coach Vandenborn and other members of the UMKC golf team.
UMKC Golf follows the 212 “the extra degree” attitude.
At 211 degrees water is hot. At 212 degrees it boils. And with boiling water comes steam. And steam can power a locomotive. One extra degree….. makes all the difference. And, the one extra degree of effort in business and in life….. separates the good from the great!
Favorite quotes from the team include:
“I brought the Ham on that one”- Hit the ball real far.
“That was career”- Implying that it was the best shot of your career.
“That had a lot of Wazz on it”- The ball had a lot of back spin when it hit the green.
Work out routine:
The UMKC golf team works out at 6:00 A.M during season at least 3 days a week which includes running, heavy core training, and a lot of stretching.
In the off season they work out with Kip Hytrek who is the Director of Strength, Conditioning & Sports Enhancement. While the team works out with him they get into more advanced stretching techniques and weight training.
